WELCOME
This site is dedicated to those individuals living with mental illness, affecting them most deeply along with their spouses, family and friends.
Many forms of mental illness take their shape in Depression, Bipolar Disorder and Schizophrenia, just to name a few. A major note is that mental illness is neither one’s fault nor a character flaw, however, many live in a society laced with stigma.
Catch up on what’s in the news dealing with mental health issues, articles written by myself, articles discovered in medical sites and magazines – all aimed to inform you.
So, grab a cup of coffee, take a wee browse, learn something new – and most of all - just enjoy. Lots of links in the sidebar. Leave a comment or two if you would like. Thanks for taking a peek.

This evening, I was released from the hospital. I went in because my depression reached an unbearable level~~clinical.
My meds were changed around, and I got a full work-up (cardio/circulatory system/Marfan Syndrome)
Now, I’ll be seeing a doctor on an out-patient basis.
The thing is, I went in, essentially, for the Marfan related issues.
I wrote about going into the hospital on my blog. The constellation of two events (health related), and the anniversary of my mother’s passing(2 years & lot’s of family stress later!)…were bound to catch up with me.
What your blog has done for me, is give the perspective & the knowledge that I’m not alone in these things.
Yes, there is too much stigma out there…
..but, believe me, there are so many who walk in our path.
I wanted you to know,
because, each post you’ve got here,
is for all to read.
And so, we’ll keep on walking.
Thanks again,
Will.
Will, first of all thank you so much for visiting and sorry you were ill.
Anything to do with the hospital is stressful, especially for depression - but sounds as if you are coping now and that is the main thing. Working through it and writing in your blog is very cathartic. I do the same when writing my articles.
I try and keep abreast of the news relating to mental illness issues, and give a touch of my own experiences with articles. The stigma issue is important to me, as I live and breathe it everyday, and never noticed it so much since returning to the workforce. You become huddled inside your own little world when not working, and live inside your house (at least I did) all during the day - hidden from everything; everybody. Then, whooosh - you are out there.
Yes, keep on walking.
Take care.
Yup, it is a personal decision. The usual accusation of ’selfish’ can’t even be used as they’ve talked it over and explained it to their family in advance.
Thankfully I didn’t catch this story via the media or hear any of the backlash they got- I can imagine what was said- or it would have really wound me up!
You are referring to the Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne situation. Yes, I too believe so much in choice, and also it is their personal business. This is within their family unit - who are we to judge and say what is right or wrong? And why would we be right or wrong?
Stumbled here from Victorya Chase… oh how I relate to so much of what you wrote. I’m glad I’m not the only one reading research for fun and healing… I’ll keep an eye on your blog for sure.

I love your image on the header. Did you make it yourself? It is really creative.
The image I would love to say is my creation, but was created by Bev Hodson titled “Stigma”

Thanks for visiting
q Thank you so much for visiting. I love the research ‘cos I have learned so much along the way about my illness, and now I can share. Writing is cathartic for me, and what better way to share than with blogging. I share with my fellow bloggers; they share with me. I love it.
This depression guide is pretty great: http://www.spine-health.com/topics/conserv/Depression/Depression.html. Check it out if you get a chance. Perhaps a new addition to the blogroll?
Thanks so much for providing that url, however, it stated: “sorry-you’ve reached a page that doesn’t exist”. It did bring me to the spine.com, but couldn’t find anything on depression.
I appreciate your effort though, and thanks for visiting.
Hello Cherished79 - I just want to say “THANK YOU” for this site. I am new to all of this (blogging, etc..), I started my depression blog just couple of months ago. I’m using my blog as a place to vent on my life dealing with Major Depressive Disorder. (I do have family, friends, but I don’t want to always overwhelm them with issues). I came across your site through Technorati - I have added you as my favorite (actually you are the only favorite I have added so far) because this is a site I want/need to visit often. So happy to find a site that REALLY understands stigma and mental illness.
Again, thank you so much
Shay
Shay thank you so much. Blogging is a fantastic way to express yourself and writing is very cathartic. The drive for my blog is to educate; both for me and others as you just can’t have enough information on mental illness.
Also, with my writing, which other forum could I have used to allow people to read my words. Write your little heart out on your blog, there is no wrong/right, and just remember this is your life and articles. Keep a journal also, as this has helped me more than you can imagine throughout the years. Just spill your guts and no worry about grammar or spelling - just let the words flow.
Thank you so much for including me as a favorite on Technorati (I’m blushing!)
Take care and just send a comment if you want to contact me.
hi cherish79, your headers are always so pleasant for my eyes…found a lite, but handy online mental health dictionary..

Cafedog: This is an excellent link. I’m glad you dropped in - I have been trying to contact you, lost your link, found it and then it came up with “error: not found”. Will try again.
See you are just one of a kind.
